About NEM Contest 2023

As always, we serve as a bridge between creators and industry opportunities, offering a platform for recognition and collaboration. Through script idea contest in four categories we are connecting you with experienced experts and decision-makers from the world of production and TV content creation, gain valuable exposure, and learn how you can improve your work.

Projects can be submitted in four categories:

    1. Scripted series in all genres: drama, thriller, crime, fantasy, SF, comedy etc.
    2. Scripted feature-length film (primarily for a streaming audience) in all genres drama, thriller, romance, crime, fantasy, SF, comedy etc.
    3. Documentary (non-scripted series)/Feature-length documentary film
    4. Non-scripted entertainment format

NEM Contest Agenda:

  1. Sign up for free (for CEE only) until September 19th or purchase Badge Contestant
  2. You will receive an email with your unique Badge Contestant number and link for submission
  3. Choosing a template for submission from NEM Contest web page based on the type of your project – scripted series, feature film, unscripted documentary/docuseries, unscripted format
  4. Downloading a template for submission
  5. Filling all the required information in the template
  6. Saving the filled template in PDF
  7. Uploading your PDF file along with other required information on the link you received until October 19th, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
  8. Pre-selection of the projects and whether they meet the rules, technical requirements, and overall standards by the organizer
  9. 1st round of rating the projects by the NEM Contest jury
  10. Announcement of the top 10 and top 3 projects for each category
  11. Live pitch at NEM Zagreb event for top 3 projects from each category
  12. 2nd round of rating the project by the NEM Contest jury (finalists only)
  13. Private networking event for top 10 contestants from each category and jury members
  14. Announcement of the winners and award ceremony

All projects need to be submitted online and sent through our website as a PDF file in English containing the following.

Please note that any deviation from the required materials may result in technical disqualification of the project.

 

Scripted Series

  • Title
  • Genre, number of proposed episodes and duration
  • Please state if this is a “Returning” or “One-off/ Event” series.
  • Logline (approx. 75 words)
  • Synopsis: A brief overview of the series including characters, major events, and setting. This should be a concise summary of the major plot points, key characters, and themes (up to 700 words)
  • Seasonal Outline: A summary of the major plot points and story arcs for the first season of your proposed series (up to 700 words)
  • Characters: A breakdown of the key characters in the series, please in main and any important supporting characters (approx. 30 words for each)
  • Outline of the pilot episode (up to 700 words)

Scripted Feature-Length Film

  • Title
  • Genre
  • Logline (approx. 75 words)
  • Creator(s)* statement: Why is this story best told as a made-for- streaming film or TV movie, please note any personal connection and/or inspiration (up to 300 words) * this can be submitted by producer, screenwriter and/or director.
  • A synopsis of your proposed film project (approx. 300 words)
  • Characters: A breakdown of the key characters including any important supporting characters (approx. 30 words for each)
  • Outline of your film that includes a breakdown of the major plot points and character arcs (up to 700 words)

Documentary (Non-Scripted Series) / Feature-length documentary films

  • Title
  • Format (stand alone or series/number of proposed episodes)
  • Logline (approx. 75 words)
  • Short Synopsis: A brief overview of the documentary or docuseries/ non-scripted series (up to 75 words)
  • Subject and Characters: Detail the themes and key participants, along with any relevant biographical information, including any unique access to people, materials or places and their importance to the proposed project (up to 300 words)
  • Creator/s Statement regarding the subject; any personal connection, cultural, sociological, historical or environmental relevance to proposed audience (up to 300 words)
  • Project Outlines:
    • Docuseries: Overview of proposed series including episodic breakdowns (no more than 700 words)
    • Documentary Film: Outline of the proposed film (no more than 700 words)
  • Style and Approach: A description of the visual style and approach of the documentary or docuseries, including any unique techniques or creative choices (up to 300 words)

Non-scripted Entertainment Format

  • Title
  • Genre/ Category and Proposed Format (number of episodes/ duration)
  • Logline (approx. 75 words)
  • Synopsis: A brief overview of the series format, including the main themes, concept, mechanisms, approach, and target audience (approx. 300 words)
  • Format: A description of the format of the show, including mechanism, rules and any additional key features (set/casting/tasks/ props/prizes/ cameras etc.) This should be a detailed rundown of how the show will operate, and should be easy to follow (no more than 1200 words or if preferred up to 10 slides)
