Carolin Grosse Hellmann studied English, German and Japanese literature in Cologne and Tokyo. Since its foundation in 2001, she has worked at the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln in various positions and has contributed to various local and international training initiatives. As Head of Screenwriting at ifs, she helped develop the renowned “MA Serial Storytelling”, Europe’s first and still only international master’s programme focusing on collaborative writing for series. In 2016, she co-created the international industry event “European Series Day”, an international series conference co-hosted by the Creative Europe Media Desk NRW, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln and the Film Festival Cologne – now in its 9th year. Together with ifs Managing Director Nadja Radojevic, she developed the European Showrunner Programme (ESP), a unique threefold international initiative focusing on the writer-centred showrunner model in Europe. The ESP is led by Danish showrunner Jeppe Gjervig Gram (“Borgen”, “Follow the Money”) and is co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe Media Programme.
Carolin currently heads the series department at ifs Cologne, where she is responsible for the MA Serial Storytelling, the European Showrunner Programme, and the professional training programmes for screenwriters.
