Synopsis: The series follows the fate of three generations of a Slovak family from 1914 to 1951. In a dramatic story full of emotions and suspenseful twists, the viewer has the opportunity to witness the most significant historical milestones of the Slovak nation: World War I, the disintegration of Austria-Hungary, the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic, World War II, the Slovak National Uprising and February 1948. The story begins with Géza, the son of a German woman Gréta and Slovak Jan Viola, who changes his name and nationality to pursue his own dream and obtain a license for a tavern. Géza wants to live his life differently, however, his father has his own ideas about running the tavern. That’s why Géza agrees to a commercially advantageous marriage with Róza, daughter of the butcher family Belzberg, he has known since childhood.
Later on, the story focuses on Vojto, the son of Géza and Róza, who tries to find his place in the world, but in a completely different way than his father. Experience is non-transferable, no matter how hard Géza tries to influence and protect his son. His relationship with Irena, daughter of a Jewish doctor, marks him for life. The clerofascist regime, the loss of love and ideals, lead him to abandon law, engage in illegal activities and participate in the Slovak National Uprising. The story illustrates how geopolitical changes impact individual destinies, emphasizing the human endeavour to seek love and fulfilment despite the challenges of time.
