LIVE SCRIPTWRITING WORKSHOPS
Live workshops are for the most promising students from the region in the field of scriptwriting. It is designed to teach you the fundamentals of scriptwriting, from character development to plot structure.

DAY 1: WHAT DO YOU WANT AND WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER WANT?
Students will explore the idea of characterization, character arc and its relation with structure and theme, through examples, in a group discussion. Working individually and in group, students will write a characterization, define some character arc and spot the structure from some selected films, while presenting their results to the class on screen, offering and receiving feedback from the tutor and peers.
We will stress the importance of paradoxes and consistencies to end up saying with our stories what we really intend to say.
DAY 2: FROM CHARACTER TO THE SCENE: ARE YOU CONSCIOUS OF THE UNCONSCIOUS?
Picking up from the contents and activities of the previous day – working individually and in group,
we will dig deeper into it and conceive a main character, its arc, and, from there, we will put
together a logline, to finish with the writing of a scene, that we will share on screen with the class,
while following some specific instructions.
We will explore the ingredients of good dialogue, the magic of subtext and the most common
mistakes, stressing the importance of motivations and desires, fueling conflict altogether,
discussing, as examples, some chosen scenes.
Free badge for NEM Zagreb 2023 will be given to all participants that will be attending the workshops.
SCRIPT SURGERY WORKSHOPS
These workshops are specifically designed for the finalists of the NEM Contest to provide feedback and in-depth script analysis. As the last part of the competition is pitching in front of the grand jury at NEM Zagreb 2023, these workshops will be organized in a hybrid model where the first part will be organized online and the second part will be organized at the actual event.
