Timur Makarević was born in 1976 in Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, École des beaux-arts de Marseille and had an internship at F A B R I C A, a communication research centre of Benetton in Treviso. Working in Film, TV and video since 1996. Member of the European Film Academy since 2014.
Written and directed feature film Nothing But the Wind and won best director award at the SMR13 Film Festival in France in 2017. Codirected short film What Do I Know which was selected in the competiton program of the Venice Film Festival in 2007. Edited Danis Tanović’s feature film An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker, which won two Silver Bears at the Berlin Film Festival in 2013. Also edited a documentary Interrogation by Namik Kabil that premiered at IDFA, a documentary film festival in Amsterdam in 2007.
