The Art of Collaboration. Music for the media involves various levels of collaboration - with producers, directors, editors, clients and, of course, musicians. For a composer dipping his or her foot into the media pool there is inevitably an initial shock - you are no longer closeted in your ivory tower, writing music primarily to satisfy yourself. In this talk Dr John Altman - composer or arranger/conductor of over 50 movie soundtracks, over 4,000 television radio and cinema commercials, arranger of 19 Platinum Records, and acclaimed saxophonist - will discuss his approach to collaboration and the practicalities of balancing creativity with the ability to negotiate the sometimes murky politics of media work.
