Pavel began his career cinematographer and worked with such directors as Sergey Loznitsa, Victor Asliuk, Alexey Uchitel and Alexey Popogrebsky, including How I Ended This Summer (2010) that brought Pavel Silver Berlin Bear for Outstanding Artistic Achievement of Berlin International Film Festival, European Film Awards Carlo di Palma Nomination and Golden Camera 300 Nomination of International Cinematographers’ Film Festival Manaki Brothers.

Pavel has passion for depicting realistic world that resulted in documentary directing including such projects as The Transformer (Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival Sleepwalkers Jury Prize, Best Documentary at the Tampere ISFF); Life Peace (2004, Silver Dove at DOK Leipzig, Silver Dragon for Best Documentary at the 45th Krakow FF); Mother (2007), all co-directed with Antoine Cattin; and later Two Together (2009) and I Love You (2010, co-directed with Alexander Rastorguev).
