Milen Mitev

Director General, Bulgarian National Radio

Born on March 4, 1984, Milen Mitev graduated in Law from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. He began his career at BNR in 2009 as a Legal Advisor, specializing in media law and copyright. Over the years, he has held various roles within the organization, including Director of the Legal and Human Resources Department.

He left this position at BNR in 2019 to briefly take on the role of Secretary General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) before coming back to BNR in April 2020.

After his return at BNR he was appointed as Administrative Director beginning from April 2020, followed by a period on the position of Acting Director General just before his formal appointment as Director General in November 2021.

In addition to his work at BNR, Mitev has been actively involved in international media organizations. He was elected to the European Broadcasting Union’s Legal & Policy Committee in 2013 and the Radio Committee in April 2023. In December 2023 he became the first Bulgarian elected as a member of the EBU’s highest governing body, the Executive Board. Domestically, he was elected Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian National Electronic Media in September 2024 .

His expertise icludes an extensive knowledge on such an important for the public service media issues as adapting to the digital age, emphasizing quality journalism, combating misinformation, and exploring new formats and platforms to engage audiences.
