Hanka Kastelicová is the VP and Executive Producer of Documentaries for HBO Max in Europe. Based in the Prague office, she is responsible for the development and production of HBO’s documentary films and series in Europe.
She commissions and co-produces documentary programming, focusing on feature length productions, and documentary series which should have a strong connection with the countries where HBO Max broadcasts in Europe.
Hanka is passionate about nurturing European stories rooted in the rich local tradition of visual storytelling and resonating with global audiences. The documentaries she co-produces are giving strong insights into its subject, creating debates, showing a different perspective, and are daring, creative and innovative. HBO documentaries are mainly character driven stories with a strong narrative and high production values. That is why many of films she co-produces are very successful worldwide and have won many awards in international festivals.
She earned a Master of Arts degree from the Faculty of Film and TV Documentary Department at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. She continued her professional career in Slovenia, where she worked for more than 25 years as a documentary director and producer, with a portfolio of more than 100 documentaries.
She joined HBO in 2012. She co-produced films that resonated with HBO viewers, achieved recognition at festivals, and garnered nominations and awards from local Film Academies and the European Film Academy; on top of that, Collective by Alexander Nanau had two Oscar nominations.
As an experienced and dedicated documentary filmmaker, she has lectured on documentary filmmaking and participated in the organization of master classes, industry seminars, and courses.
She has also served as a moderator and participant on numerous industry panels and other documentary events in many countries.
