New form of partnerships between traditional broadcasters and global streaming services
Announcements of content-sharing collaborations and new distribution partnerships between global streaming services and national broadcasters in Europe (such as Netflix and TF1, Disney+ and ZDF Studios, Atresmedia, RTVE, RAI, ITVX and between Amazon and France Télévisions, RTL Deutschland) indicate a new evolution in the relationship between traditional and new media. What consequences will these new forms of collaboration have for traditional European players?
Investments in original European content:
CEE vs. Western Europe
In light of the recent slowdown in content investment and the apparent end of 'peak TV', what impact will this have on the investment of global streaming services and traditional broadcasters in original European content? How do investment levels and differences between broadcasters and streamers compare in Western and Central and Eastern European countries? After providing an overview of investment levels, the panellists will share their thoughts on these differences.
Consolidation and impact on CEE
Recently, mergers and acquisitions have come to dominate the news, both on the global stage and in Europe. Examples include the merger of Paramount with Warner Bros. Discovery and of MediaForEurope and ProSiebenSat.1, as well as the acquisition of Sky Deutschland by RTL Group and Banijay's and Mediawan's acquisition sprees.
Is this ongoing consolidation, driven by concentration in the digital subscription and advertising markets, a way for European companies to compete with global giants, and what could the consequences of increased concentration be for the European audiovisual market? Supported by data, the panellists will share their insights on current developments and potential consequences.
