In Dubrovnik, 12 – 15 June
New Europe Market, the media event where professionals from the regional, as well as the global TV industry gather, begins with a formal welcome on June 12 at the Palace hotel in Dubrovnik. Some 1000 guests are expected at the conference where they can attend panel-discussions, special presentations, screenings and other events.
The conference will be opened on June 12 by a special guest, the Hollywood actor Michael Weatherly, who will casually talk with the reporter Antonija Mandić and share his experience of working on the popular CBS series Bull, currently available on Pickbox in the Adria region.
Kazimir Bačić, general director of Croatian National Television, will be one of the speakers at the panel “Surviving it all: Things that FTAs can teach you”. He will talk about the FTA channel popularity in the face of strong market competition. Ivana Miković, deputy director general of Serbian Radio-television, will participate in the same panel.
HAKOM’s director Mario Weber will attend the panel questioning the legislation relating to operators. While other participants will be talking about the experiences of telecoms that own TV channels, Weber will tell NEM guests why telecoms are not allowed to own TV channels in Croatia.
Boris Trupčević, a media expert with a strong editorial background and Styria Media Group’s general manager for Croatia, will speak at the panel on the trend which puts users first. The panel will discuss growing user expectations, and whether companies succeed in adapting to them.
One of the most eagerly awaited discussions is the one concerning Croatian production and the growing financial support for domestic production. Since there is a media legislation reform in the making, the Croatian audio-visual industry could be in for a renaissance, and the Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) could once again become the cultural and creative hub in Croatia. The domestic production revival will be discussed by, among others, Nina Obuljen Koržinek, the minister of culture, and Marija Nemčić, the head of HRT’s international relations department.
This year NEM will introduce the Innovation Institute, an organisation working on developing regional innovative potentials. Professor Goran Vlašić will talk about the institute’s projects. Young Croatian forces Dino Julius and Luka Hrgović from Julius film will showcase their ambitious SF project called Slice of Life, a homage to Blade Runner that was entirely made in a garage.
