Before you enter this year’s panel room at NEM 2017, take a deep breath, because the scenery will stun you! We have prepared a really special visual scene, motivated by the fifth edition of NEM. Something that makes a statement. Something that connects the conference with the location and the idea of trends. The final visual solution was suggested by our head of graphic department, Ante Šimić; read how he got from one simple Mediterranean element to the complete stage look.
The rozeta (rose window) is an architectonic decoration element in the shape of rose’s flower with highly stylised leaves. It was invented in the Romanesque days. You can see it quite often on church windows all over Europe, but it is especially significant for the history of Dubrovnik and the Mediterranean area. If you look closely, you can see the rozeta on every step of this beautiful city: its windows, barriers, towers… In Croatia, this motif bears strong associations with the city where NEM is being held.
To understand the rozeta better, this motif has to be dissected and simplified. There came the realization that everything is based around circles. Rozeta is made out of four identical circles and their outer boundaries are what gives us our motif. If you are playful with these circles, you can see different dimensions of this simple clover-like motif. And then, when you take two rozetas and see how they fit together…
…you realise that there is an element of wave that reminds you of the sea and it has a soothing effect. That line there was exactly the trigger for the final graphic solution. The wave line turned out to be the „wow“ effect we wanted for our soon-to-be NEM stage. From there, it was clear what the next steps were going to be. The wave was transferred into a 3D model of the NEM panel room. „Go big or go home“ was the sentence that bothered us all the time, so we decided – we will go big.
The wave you will see in this year’s NEM 2017 panel room is state of the art, considering technology and displays. With technical support from fakat. team and their 4K LED panels, the main idea was realised: from top to bottom, from left to right, NEM guests will see a huge wave wall dominating the spot where esteemed speakers will talk about the latest trends. It’s not just about Dubrovnik, waves, seaside. It’s about connecting trends we are talking about and trends you can see. NEM 2017 is going full circle – and there’s no coming back!
